RAC stands for Rams Assume Citizenship

Under the RAC point system, students earn points for good citizenship and lose points for inappropriate behavior.  All students begin the school year with 100 RAC points.  At the end of each nine weeks, students who have fallen below 80 points MUST attend RAC Saturday School and earn back to 80 points.  Students may not "bank" points to be used at a later time.  Teams will determine how to reward those students who exceed the 100 point maximum.

Students must have at least 80 RAC points to be eligible to participate in or attend ANY extracurricular school activity.  Students who are not RAC eligible cannot participate in ANY extracurricular event, including music programs and pep rallies.

Ineligible students who attend an extracurricular activity will lose -10 RAC points and be assigned mandatory detention.

Students must have 90 RAC points to attend the Discipline - Free Celebration, Pizza/Candy Cart sales that the school sponsors each 9 weeks.

For those students who have perfect attendance, no unexcused tardies, no in-school or out of school suspensions and have been RAC eligible for the entire first semester, an Arnold celebration is planned.  For those students who maintain 100 RAC points for every 9 weeks and are not suspended in or out of school, a special Arnold Extravaganza is planned for the end of school.  Students with absences in excess of fifteen days are not eligible to go on this trip.  Perfect attendance students will receive a free ticket to the extravaganza.  Cut-off date for new students will be an 18 week minimum attendance as per record with maintenance of 90+/100+ each week present.

RAC points are taken off by teachers or administrators for violation of school rules.  Points are earned back by serving voluntary detention, doing community service work, (excluding Magnet Community Service requirement) and other means (see RAC slip).  A limit of 30 RAC points can be made up per week.  Each Friday (after 4 PM), RAC points are totaled.  Team teachers maintain their students' individual records and make them available to students.  Students with questions about their RAC points must put their questions, in writing, and give it to the RAC coordinator (teacher) within one week for adjustments to be made.  Community service work must be on appropriate letterhead with name and phone number of contact person.

If a student loses 30 or more RAC points and does not make them up within a RAC week (Monday - Friday), the student is referred to his/her counselor.  The student's parent(s) will be contacted by telephone.  If a students loses down to 50 RAC points, the student must be referred to the assistant principal.  At 25 RAC points, the student MUST see the principal.  A conference with the students and a parent is required.

Students who fall below 0 RAC points at any time during the 9 weeks are removed from the RAC Plan.  They are required to have a conference with their parent or guardian and the principal to prepare an individual behavior plan (Contract).  Students will attend RAC Saturday School at the end of the 9-week grading period during which they are put on Contract.

We will implement a voluntary RAC Saturday School to give students another alternative for making up RAC points before the end of each nine weeks.  It will be run the same as mandatory RAC Saturday School and give students a maximum of 30 RAC points.  This will be an exception to the rule about making up no more than 30 points in one week.  These points can be added to any points already made up.  If a student needs less than 30 points to reach 100, only the points needed should be added to the weekly total and no points added to the bonus total.  Additionally, students must stay the entire time, whether they need the full 30 points or not.  For example, a student may not leave at 10:00 am if they only need to make up 20 points.   They will do the same kind of work as mandatory RAC Saturday School.  Some of the voluntary sessions will be held in conjunction with HW Saturday Schools.  However, students cannot get credit for HW Saturday School and voluntary RAC Saturday School during the same session.  They must choose one or the other.

At the end of the 9-week grading period, any students whose RAC points are below 80 MUST attend RAC Saturday School.  Successfully completing RAC Saturday School brings a student's RAC point total back up to 80 RAC points.  Failure to attend RAC Saturday School results in out-of-school suspensions and the student's RAC point total is not changed.

Second Chance Plan

Contract students have a two-time opportunity to come off contract at the end of the 2nd and/or 3rd 9-weeks.  Students must earn their RAC points back to 80 by voluntarily attending RAC Saturday School.  Those students required to attend RAC Saturday School are not eligible to participate in this plan.  The following week students must remain after school, Tuesday through Friday, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm with the designated teacher.  Students must have had no office referrals during the week of detentions and there will be no opportunity for make-up detentions.  Students are then removed from the contract plan but placed on probation.  If a students allows his/her RAC total to fall  below 50 at the end of a RAC week, the student will be placed back on contract immediately without a second parent conference.

Saturday School

Citizenship and scholarship are the focus of all Saturday School work.  Students are to report to the school's cafeteria at 8:00 am and will remain until 11:00 AM.  Students arriving at 8:05 am are NOT allowed to attend.  Students MUST bring pencil and paper.  No food will be available.  Dress Code is required at all Saturday Schools.  Parents must pick up their child by 11:30 AM.  If your child is not picked up by this time, the police will be called and your child will lose all credit for attending RAC Saturday School.

If a student is suspended out of school and is required to attend RAC Saturday School, they MUST BE PRESENT.

Conduct Grades

Students' Conduct Grades are computed every 9 weeks by averaging the 9-weekly RAC totals.  Students who fail conduct (yearly average below 60) MUST attend Conduct Summer School or they will be placed at Rosehill Alternative School for the first semester of the next school year.  Those students entering from Rosehill will not be eligible to attend the 1st semester Discipline-Free Party.

Students who go on Contract will receive the following for conduct:
No Office referrals = 80
1 office referral = 75
2 office referrals = 70
3 office referrals = 65*
4 office referrals = 59
5 office referrals = 49
6 office referrals = 39
7 office referrals = 29
8 office referrals = 19
9 office referrals = 9
10 or more office referrals = 0

*Contract students will be assigned to RAC Saturday School for 3 subsequent discipline violations.

Each student is given their ID badge during homeroom and is to wear throughout the school day.  At the end of the school day, the student is to turn their ID badge into their last academic class teacher.  If a student loses his/her ID badge there is a $5 replacement fee.  If a student loses/damages his/her Badge holder there is a $1 replacement fee.  If a student loses/damages his/her green lanyard there is a $1 replacement fee.  Students need to wear these at all times during the school day for safety.  They must be visible.  If a student is not wearing his/her ID badge or loses it, it is a RACable offense.  Please encourage the students to take care of these as they are used in the media center, the cafeteria, in the computer lab, and even in the classrooms daily.
