EIC: Using the Environment as an Integrated Context for Learning

Team 601 and Team 702 have both gone through training and use the environment as a means to teach the students.  These teachers go outside the classroom and work beyond a textbook to make learning real to their students.  Students have used this model to teach other students about water throughout Georgia at various schools.  Team 601 is in charge of the school wide recycling program while Team 702 has educated many on water.

Arnold is also the Project WET school of the year for 2003.

Arnold is competing with other schools in Muscogee County  to see who can collect the most recyclable items.  Some of the items we are participating in are as follows:

Aluminum Can Drive - J.T. Knight, Inc., a local scrap metal dealer will be purchasing aluminum cans and keep records for each school on the number of cans turned in.  We will receive money for the cans plus prize money if we collect the most aluminum cans!  Please help us win by taking any aluminum cans you have to J.T. Knight Recycling Center located at 602 6th Street.  At delivery, please inform them that the cans are to be credited to Arnold Magnet Academy.  You can also drop the cans off at our school.

Ink Cartridges and Cell Phones - We recycle printer ink cartridges and cellular phones.  These items normally fill our landfills and take years to decompose.  Please help us earn funds for the school and save our landfills.  Bring or send these items to Arnold to recycling.

We are very enthusiastic about these opportunities and with your cooperation, support, and encouragement we are sure that your children will enjoy, learn, and benefit from the integration of the environment into the classroom.

On Monday, December 17th, Mrs. Laurie Howard, Mrs. Benita Blanton, Mrs. Lindsay Ratliff, Mrs. Patti Gourd, and Mrs. Amy Mobley took 13 students to K Mart on Airport Thruway to buy Christmas presents for their family and themselves.  The students were selected by their team teachers as well as input from other faculty and staff members.  Each student was given a budget of $100 to spend.  The students left Arnold at 9 AM and returned a little before 11 AM.  They shopped, enjoyed snacks, and even received a gift - a Shrek Santa Hat.  Thanks to Bill Heard Enterprises, Kennon, Parker, Duncan, & Key and Arnold's PTSA for making this possible by providing the funding for the event.

On Friday, January 25th Bill Heard Chevrolet sponsored a breakfast for over 200 students that earned Honor Roll and Principal's List for the 1st semester.  All the students seemed to have a great time and thoroughly enjoyed their morning thanks to Bill Heard Chevrolet.

On Monday, May 19th Bill Heard Chevrolet sponsored Cookies and Coke in the Courtyard for over 250 students that earned Honor Roll and Principal's List for the entire school year.  All the students had a great time outside enjoying the sun with a Coke, a cookie, and a smile thanks to our PIE - Bill Heard Chevrolet!
